Let’s Celebrate the Changing Face of Aging

Suggestions for the community challenge include but are not limited to the following:

Physical Health

  • Participate in an outdoor activity
  • Participate in a Mind-Body exercise class
  • Attend a community balance screening
  • Join the Y
  • Attend a coaching connection with a Y healthy living coach
  • Sign up for a Y falls prevention program
  • Sign up for any YMCA Evidence based intervention program
  • Take a hike with a friend
  • Participate in a Shinrin Yoku walk
  • Take a group exercise class you have never taken
  • Assist an Enhance Fitness class at CarePartners
  • Practice yoga or qigong at home
  • Go for a walk
  • Ride a bike
  • Take a healthy cooking class
  • Cook a healthy meal

Social Health

  • Attend a gardening, bridge, book club or club in your community
  • Post a picture of yourself doing your favorite activity. (#DACHC & #YMCAWNC)
  • Visit someone who needs a friend
  • Attend a Y or AARP Healthy Aging event
  • Join a county or city committee related to transportation or housing
  • Start a Y connect club or club in your community
  • Join the Henderson County Age Friendly Steering Committee or Buncombe County Aging Consortium
  • Disseminate the Buncombe County age-friendly survey to community groups
  • Volunteer with Meals on Wheels
  • Volunteer with Ride Share
  • Attend a concert
  • Complete a Go4Life project
  • Invite friends to join you for a class
  • Go to a movie and discussion with friends
  • Attend a caregiver support group
  • Go to a dance class

Community Health

  • Volunteer in our Nutrition Department or in one of our branches
  • Volunteer for 1hr or more at any organization
  • Develop and lead a Y interest club
  • Join the Y or AARP NC Mountain region network or volunteers
  • Share with a Y or AARP staff how this challenge has impacted your life
  • Work in the community garden at the Hendersonville Y
  • Become a lifeguard at the Y
  • Volunteer in the youth development center at the Y once a week
  • Coach a youth sports team
  • Participate as a volunteer in a community ride share program
  • Develop and lead a Y interest club
  • Volunteer at an assisted living facility
  • Join a city commission

Intellectual Health
